The F.I.S.A. Bulletin was the quarterly bulletin, edited by F.I.S.A. during many years. It was our long time board member the late Alex Newall who was in charge of this printed magazine for many years.

The latest printed bulletins can be seen in the archives of the Bulletin, which we hope to complete in the next few years.

The latest news is now published on the website as far as clubs send us the news to be published. Just have a look at the  news release and send us your news to be published.

Meanwhile, F.I.S.A. will start a new type of Bulletin, printed and send to our member societes as well as published on the website as a (.pdf) file that can easily be printed from the web.

IN MEMORIUM – HENRI NIERINCK

Henri Nierinck passed away in early January 2010, after battling Alzheimer’s disease for many years.

Henri was born in Oostende, Belgium in 1925. After having collected stamps since his early childhood, in the summer of 1977, he discovered a “crash cover” in one of his latest stamp purchases. From there, he started his real passion, collecting and studying recovered mail. He did extensive worldwide research on air crash mail and created a large collection of air crash covers.

He also collected newspaper clippings, pilot’s remembrances and postal documents connected with airline crashes. This inspired him to write his first book on the subject in 1984, “Recovered Mail – 1918-1978”. This became the “bible” for worldwide air crash covers.

Henri later published a revised edition in two volumes, covering air crash mail from 1910 to 1988.

Before retiring in 1975, Henri owned a Mercedes dealership in Oostende and later he started a Fiat dealership.

I spent many pleasant times with Henri at various philatelic exhibitions, and during his annual trips to Crans-Montana, Switzerland. Henri was a very pleasant man and he was always helpful to anyone interested in air crash mail.

He will be greatly missed and his legacy will continue for many years to come.
